NOT SKYNET. NOT A SAVIOR.

Reality Check · editorial method

What actually happened?

The red headlines on the front page are examples of sensational framing, not reports of particular incidents.

Before repeating a claim, find the primary source and describe the observable behavior. Was it a simulation, an evaluation or a deployed system? What tools and permissions were involved? What does the evidence leave unknown?

Six questions for a better headline.

  1. What is the precise claim?
  2. What was directly observed?
  3. What could the system access?
  4. Which control or assumption failed?
  5. What is interpretation rather than evidence?
  6. What would reduce the chance or impact of a repeat?

This checklist is a reporting format. It does not establish facts about an unnamed incident or dismiss a risk before investigating it.
